Bmw E28 518i Wiring Diagram

  1. Need a wiring diagram for E34 M5 instrument cluster

Need a wiring diagram for E34 M5 instrument cluster.
I need to know where all those pins in the four connectors should go.
Actually I've converted my E34 518i to M5 by swapping engine (S38B36), transmission box, rear complete axle and .....
Engine wiring harness also swapped to M5 but the rest wiring belongs to 518i.
Now I'm gonna install the M5 instrument cluster and i need to know where all those pins in the four connectors should go?
the problem is 518's cluster has only two connector but M5's has four!

Thanks in advance for any help

  3. Not to jack this thread, but do you have a link for a full 1991 M5 manual, Dan?

Or even know where I can get my hands on a full hard copy version?

    Thanks!

  5. Actually was just looking for the whole manual! :-)

  6. Ahhhh. I dont think the bentley covers the m5 for whatever reason.... I dont have a link to one but somebidy here has to have one.

  7. No worries man! I will keep the search up! A hard copy would be wonderful to have!
    Thanks again!

  8. Thank u Dan, I already had the manuals but non of them have instrument cluster pin assignment.

  9. Instrument cluster pin assignment is partially dependent from the built year, that means grey, white or blue backplate cluster. But I have here some info from the E32 and that should also go for the E34, X16 is different by cluster version
    http://www.e32-schrauber.de/bmw/s-stecker-kombi.htm
and believe it or not, it is from the ETMs and we made a list, therefore it is mentioned: Steckerbelegung Kombiinstrument E32 ab Bj. 02/87 , mit freundlicher Unterstuetzung von Erich "Shogun"

  10. Great!!!
That is what I was looking for
mine is exactly same the first one (Kombiinstrument grau bis 08/90 (735)
    Thanks a lot.

  11. Thanks again Shogun for your guide line.
All wires are connected together properly (By Colors) but non of gauges works. not even lights. the only thing working is mileage indicator and perhaps speedometer (didn't move the car to check).

The only brown wire (ground) is in X271 connector that I believe is related to speedometer.
I think there must be a ground wire for the rest of the gauges and lamps. non of them works!!!

  12. update....
found all wires and connect them as per wiring diagram.
-all warning lights works (oil pressure, hand break, turn signals, high beams, ....

    problems:
    - engine speedometer doesn't work
    - temp gauge goes straight to the red immediately by plug in the brown connector (even when others not connected or unplugged temp sensor).
    - fuel gauge goes on 20 liter by connecting brown connector (with or withot connecting the others.
    - Instrument illumination doesn't turned on.

    any idea whats wrong?

  13. Update...

Once again after four years! checked to see if I can find whats wrong with the M5 instrument cluster.
all illumination (lamps) were broken, so replace them with new ones and now they work fine.
lcd is Ok and all pixle light fine.
still temp gauge goes to red upon connecting brown connector, fuel gauge stay on 20 liter while the tank is full and engine rev meter doesn't work at all.
Can the problem have any relation with the Capacitors?

  14. The fuel gauge problem could be caused by the sender http://bmwe32.masscom.net/johan/fuel...el_sender.html
    http://bmwe32.masscom.net/maxf_website/gauge.htm
broken capacitors in the instrument cluster could be the cause of the other instrument cluster problems
    http://bmwe32.masscom.net/johan/dash...dash_caps.html
I once had this problem, fix of poor solder joints in cluster http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/569942/ read the complete thread : fuel level, temperature gauges, gear, all dark http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/569898
Then go to my website http://twrite.org/shogunnew/topmenu.html on the left click fixes, go to instruments, click Replace blown resistor in speedometer

I would also try to resolder the complete board, maybe some cold soldering spots.
As for the temp gauge, check the temp sensor, maybe a wrong one is installed. The one for the DME is different from the one for the gauge

  15. Thank you shogun,
There is no problem with the original instrument cluster but the M5 cluster (gen 1) has above described problems so fuel gauge sender is all right.
Maybe I should try another Gen 1 cluster to see if the problem is with the M5 cluster or not.
apart from that do you know what are those two gear for in the inst cluster?meterrepair2.jpg

  16. I do not know the E34 clusters well, such gears are not in E32 clusters, google search shows me M5 odometer gears for that Motometer

  17. Ebay gears are not the gears in my pictures I think they are for clusters with mechanical odometers. (Ebay explanations are not trustable)Screenshot_20191103-074708_Gallery.jpg
All M5 are electronic, mine is for november 1988

  18. This is the M5 (half cut) I"ve bought 5 years ago with 63k in odometer, she came from Japan.

I replaced every part of my e34 with those came with the half cut and all works fine exept instrument cluster

  20. Thank you shogun,
I thing i should search for e32 too.

    Update:
Problem with my M5 instrument cluster was in back electronic board. replaced it with another one and the cluster came back to the life!

The only problem is that oil temp gauge doesn't work, it goes to high after ignition then back and forth between low and high while driving

Last edited by shervin; 11-08-2019 at 02:11 AM.

  21. E34 and E32 have a lot of modules in common, so it often helps when you search also in the E32 section.
Oil temp gauge always changing: Might be a wiring problem, check the wires and also the connection on the sensor and the pin connection on the cluster.

Do you mean its moving like the MPG gauge on a standard cluster does?

Where did the coding plug you are using come from? An M5? Or a lesser e34?

2000 Bmw 740il Vacuum Diagram

BMWs are fantastic cars to own as well as drive. Keeping current on your car's maintenance and service schedule will help you to avoid high-end repair prices. At Ultimate Bimmer Service, we will provide you with expert BMW service and maintenance without the high costs that you will see at a dealership.

If you are experiencing a vacuum leak in your BMW, you know that it can be maddening. A leak is a common problem that we run across, and we can diagnose the issue and fix it for you. Let's discuss vacuum leaks in BMWs and how we can help you repair them.

BMW Check Engine Light

What is a vacuum leak?

When an engine runs, it creates a vacuum inside the cylinders. If a hose fails, or there is an issue with the engine, you may encounter a vacuum leak. This allows additional air to enter the engine, which results in an incorrect air to fuel ratio. These are the common symptoms of a vacuum leak:

Check Engine Light: If your car's computer detects that you have a vacuum leak, it will illuminate your check engine light. This light may come on for a number of reasons. If the light has been triggered, take it to a technician, who can perform a diagnostic scan to find the trouble code.

Stalling: If the air-to-fuel ratio is incorrect, this can cause your engine to stall or die.

Trouble Starting: Having an incorrect air-to-fuel ratio can make it hard for you to start your car.

High or Rough Idle: If your engine is receiving too much air, it will idle faster than it should. Your car's computer will compensate for the amount of air the engine is receiving. This will lead to fluctuation idle speeds.

Hissing or Sucking Sounds: If you can hear a hissing or sucking noise, you probably have a vacuum leak.

Common Causes of a Vacuum Leak

A damaged or disconnected vacuum hose is the most common cause of a vacuum leak. These hoses are made from plastic and the extreme heat from the engine can cause them to wear out and break over time. The fittings can also break and cause the hose to be disconnected.

Worn out seals and gaskets can also cause a vacuum leak. Seals and gaskets are used to keep in fluids while keeping out debris. They also provide an airtight seal. Over time, they can dry out and crack leading to an air leak. This type of cause can be hard to detect.

Some vehicles use a brake booster to power the braking system. If it fails you can experience a vacuum leak.

Damaged or broken parts can also lead to problems with this feature. Vacuum hoses connect to many different parts. If these connections fail, this can also lead to a leak.

Identifying the Problem

Since there are so many issues that can lead to a vacuum leak, it can sometimes be difficult to narrow down the problem quickly. By having regular maintenance performed, you will help to lessen the chances of acquiring a vacuum leak.

The engine is a major part of your BMW and it needs to be taken care of. If there is an issue that could be affecting it, it needs to be taken care of right away. Letting an issue go without having it fixed can lead to engine failure as well as higher service bills. Taking care of any issue that arises right away will save you time and money in the future.

save Tree Presentation Powerpoint Download

When you make a recording of a presentation, all its elements (narration, animation, pointer movements, timings, and so on) are saved in the presentation itself. In essence, the presentation becomes a video that your audience can watch in PowerPoint.

So you have two options for turning your presentation into a video that's ready to view:

  • Save/export your presentation to a video file format (.mp4 or .wmv).

  • Save your presentation as a PowerPoint Show (.ppsx) file. (A PowerPoint Show appears full-screen in Slide Show, ready to view immediately.)

Save as a video file

Your browser does not support video.

51 seconds

  1. On the File menu, select Save to ensure all your recent work has been saved in PowerPoint presentation format (.pptx).

  2. Click File > Export > Create a Video. (Or, on the Recording tab of the ribbon, click Export to Video.)

  3. In the first drop-down box under the Create a Video heading, select the video quality you want, which pertains to the resolution of the finished video. The higher the video quality, the larger the file size. (You may want to test them to determine which one meets your needs.)

    Option

    Resolution

    For displaying on

    Ultra HD (4K)*

    3840 x 2160, largest file size

    Large monitors

    Full HD (1080p)

    1920 x 1080, large file size

    Computer and HD screens

    HD (720p)

    1280 x 720, medium file size

    Internet and DVD

    Standard (480p)

    852 x 480, smallest file size

    Portable devices

    * The Ultra HD (4K) option is only available if you're using Windows 10.

  4. The second drop-down box under the Create a Video heading tells whether your presentation includes narration and timings. (You may switch this setting if you like.)

    • If you haven't recorded timed narration, by default the value is Don't Use Recorded Timings and Narrations.

The default time spent on each slide is 5 seconds. You can change that timing in the Seconds to spend on each slide box. To the right of the box, click the up arrow to increase the duration, or click the down arrow to decrease the duration.

    • If you have recorded a timed narration, by default the value is Use Recorded Timings and Narrations.

  5. Click Create Video.

  6. In the File name box, enter a file name for the video, browse for the folder that will contain this file, and then click Save.

  7. In the Save as type box, choose either MPEG-4 Video or Windows Media Video.

You can track the progress of the video creation by looking at the status bar at the bottom of your screen. The video creation process can take up to several hours depending on the length of the video and the complexity of the presentation.

Tip:   For a long video, you can set it up to be created overnight. That way, it'll be ready for you the following morning.

  8. To play your newly-created video, go to the designated folder location, and then double-click the file.

Save as a PowerPoint Show

When someone opens a PowerPoint Show file, it appears full-screen in Slide Show, rather than in edit mode. The viewer begins watching the presentation immediately.

  1. On the File menu, select Save to ensure all your recent work has been saved in PowerPoint presentation format (.pptx).

  2. On the File menu, select Save As.

  3. Choose the folder location where you want to store your PowerPoint Show file.

  4. In the Save as type box, choose PowerPoint Show (*.ppsx).

The list of file types in PowerPoint includes "PowerPoint Show (.ppsx)".
  5. Select Save.

Why turn your presentation into a video?

When you want to give a high-fidelity version of your presentation to colleagues or customers (either as an e-mail attachment, published to the web, on a CD or DVD), save it and let it play as a video.

You can save your presentation as either an MPEG-4 video file (.mp4) or a .wmv file. Both formats are widely supported and can be streamed over the internet.

Some tips to remember when recording your presentation as a video:

  • You can record and time voice narration and laser pointer movements in your video.

  • You can control the size of the multimedia file and the quality of your video.

  • You can include animations and transitions in your movie.

  • Viewers do not need to have PowerPoint installed on their computers to watch it.

  • If your presentation contains an embedded video, the video will play correctly without your needing to control it.

  • Depending on the content of your presentation, creating a video may take some time. Lengthy presentations and presentations with animations, transitions, and media content will likely take longer to create. Fortunately, you can continue to use PowerPoint while the video is being created

What parts of a presentation won't be included in a video?

The following items won't be included in a video that you create using PowerPoint:

  • Media inserted in previous versions of PowerPoint. To include these, you can convert or upgrade the media object.

For example, if you inserted the media using PowerPoint 2007, it will be linked and it will play in the presentation.  However, when you export the file as a video, the linked media will be dropped.  You can convert the file to the new file format (click the File tab, and under Info, click Convert), or you can right-click the media object and then click to upgrade; it will embed the file and export it correctly.

  • QuickTime media (unless you have a third-party QuickTime codec named ffdShow installed and you have optimized for compatibility)

  • Macros

  • OLE/ActiveX controls

What to do with your video after creating it

After you create a video, you can share it with others by using the following methods:

  • Email your presentation to others

  • Save to a file share or other location

  • Upload it to your organization's Microsoft Stream video-sharing site, as described in the next section, "Save to a video-sharing site."

Save to the Microsoft video-sharing site

After you've created the video file, you can upload it to a video-sharing site. Microsoft Stream is an enterprise video service where people in an organization can upload, view, and share videos. Microsoft 365 business or education subscribers have access to this service from within PowerPoint for Microsoft 365.

  1. Select File > Export, and then select Publish to Microsoft Stream.

The button for publishing a video to Microsoft Stream
  2. Type a title and a description for the video.

  3. Set other options, including whether you want others in your organization to have permission to see the video:

Options for publishing a video to Microsoft Stream
  4. Select the Publish button.

The upload process can take several minutes, depending on the length of the video. A status bar at the bottom of the PowerPoint window tracks the progress, and PowerPoint shows a message when the upload is finished:

PowerPoint notifies you when the upload is finished
  5. Click the message to go directly to the video playback page on Microsoft Stream.

For more information about this service, begin reading with What is Microsoft Stream? It includes information about Office 365 Video vs. Microsoft Stream.

Why turn your presentation into a video?

When you want to give a high-fidelity version of your presentation to colleagues or customers (either as an e-mail attachment, published to the web, on a CD or DVD), save it and let it play as a video.

PowerPoint 2010 saves your presentation as a Windows Media Video (.wmv) file. (If you do not want to use the .wmv file format, you can use a third-party utility to convert your file to another format, such as .avi or .mov.)

  • Burn your presentation to a disc

We'll work with a premium PowerPoint animation template, Hero v1, in this section.

We're going to customize three slides in three steps each. Let's get started:

1. The Testimonial Slide

Slide 34 testimonial Slide 34 testimonial Slide 34 testimonial

Slide 34 is a great way to show user feedback. Testimonials share potential clients that what you offer is proven to help others. This one's clean and it's easy to customize. Here's how:

  1. Add an image. Click on the image placeholder, then browse to a replacement.
  2. Update text. Include a user's testimonial to really drive the user experience to a potential customer.
  3. Slim down the text. We always coach presenters to reduce the total amount of text on a slide.

2. The Animated Chart

We're always advising our readers to use charts and graphs to show data. And as we shared in a tip earlier, animation takes a chart to the next level. Here's how to customize slide 14, an animated chart.

  1. Update data. Right-click the existing chart and chooseEdit Datato open an embedded Excel window. Then, type over the placeholder data and your chart will update in realtime.
  2. Add your image. The default slide is designed to show a candidate's skill set. But there's no reason that you couldn't show other data in action. Either way, click on the image placeholder and browse to a replacement.
  3. Update text. Each text box is waiting for your copy. All you've got to do is type inside and fill in your details. Get creative with how to show your data.

  2. Update the branding. Click on any of the shapes on this slide, then choose theFormat > Shape Filldropdown ribbon option to choose a color that matches your preference.

5 Quick PowerPoint Animation Tips for 2021

Here's what you've already learned:

  • Free animated PPT templates are out there and are sometimes "good enough" for your presentation.
  • Premium PowerPoint animation templates give you smoother animations.

No matter what type of template you choose, it helps to have tips to work with animated PowerPoint templates. For these tips, we'll be working with the premium template, HEXA - PowerPoint Presentation Template.

Here are five of our top tips for presenters of all skill levels:

1. Adjust PowerPoint Animation Sequencing

PowerPoint animation is a great tool for staging a slide, but it's got to be used properly. Arguably the most important part is sequencing your animations correctly. After all, you don't want to show the punchline of a joke first, right?

To adjust your animation sequencing, make sure you're on theAnimations tab. ClickAnimation Paneon the ribbon. Each box on the right side corresponds to the order of an object's animation. Drag-and-drop to resequence them in the proper order.

Use theAnimations > Animation Panemenu option and drag-and-drop objects to animate your slide in the proper order.

2. Use Animations Sparingly

This tip might come as a surprise. An entire article centered around animations, yet now we're suggesting that you skip most animations?

The point of animation is to stand out from the rest of the content in your presentation. If you start adding animation to every element, you're likely to overwhelm an audience.

PPTX too many animations PPTX too many animations PPTX too many animations
Pre-built templates give you plenty of animations, but it might be best to remove a few before presenting.

Less is more. Use only one to two key animations per slide to keep your slides readable.

3. Adjust an Animation's Duration

An animation'sdurationrefers to the speed at which it plays. Adjust it by selecting an object, then making sure you're on theAnimationspanel.

Change theDurationtime box, shown in the upper right corner of the screenshot below. ClickPreviewto play it.

Animation duration 2 Animation duration 2 Animation duration 2
Use theDurationbox to change the number of seconds it takes for an animation to play.

4. Add Animations to Infographics

Let's face it: the content in many presentations is complex. More presenters than ever useinfographicsto explain those complex ideas, visually.

Herein lies the power of PowerPoint animations. When you build an infographic to explain ideas, you're leveraging graphics to explain ideas. Your audience is sure to appreciate that.

To take the idea to the next level, use animations to stage the infographic onto the slide in steps. Showing the content one step at a time makes it easier to understand.

Learn more about infographics with the help of our guide below.

5. Use Slide Transitions

The focus of this tutorial was to add animations or motion that affect slide objects. There's another type of animation that many presenters use: slide transitions.

Slide transitions are the animations that play to transform one slide into the next. They're a good way to re-capture the audience's attention and shift to a new talking point.

To add a slide transition, jump to theTransitionstab and choose an animation effect. You'll instantly see a preview. Try to stick to simple animations, much like the tips we've already shared for object animations.

Common PowerPoint Animation Questions Answered (FAQ)

Animated PowerPoint templates are a huge advantage. They save you the time of creating everything on a blank canvas. But you might still have questions about how to add your PowerPoint animations.

Here are five of the most common questions we receive from beginners while they work on mastering animation in PowerPoint:

1. Does Animation Work in PowerPoint Online?

Too often, the browser-based versions of apps are watered down and don't work with key features. You might be wondering about animation in PowerPoint Online. After all, there's no sense in spending time animating if they simply don't play.

The good news is that PowerPoint animations work in PowerPoint Online. Almost all animations are supported and work well. Learn more about PowerPoint Online with the help of our guide:

2. Are PowerPoint Animated Templates Customizable?

We're major proponents of using animated PowerPoint templates to save time. It's the best way to use professional designs without becoming a designer yourself.

Too many beginners think that templates are restrictive. They don't realize that a template is the beginning of a presentation.

You've seen a few slides customized above in our walkthrough section. Check out our feature-length guide to customize PowerPoint templates:

3. Can You Animate Data in PowerPoint?

Data is great. Showing data in cluttered, overly numeric slides? Not so great. That's why skilled presenters opt for charts and graphs. Flat data comes to life with charts and graphs. It's easier to spot trends and infer meaning with the help of a chart.

Take charting to the next level with chart animations. Make sure to read our guide to learn chart animations in 60 seconds:
